Riga City Council's officials [like the Latvian government] also deny that they are aware of any earlier agreements with the Swiss company "IMS Studio 6" (IMS), the probable builder of the new ice hockey arena in Riga.
Aivars Guntis Kreituss, deputy chairman of the Riga City Council, told LETA that the city council had not discussed the matter before the steering committee for organization of the ice hockey world championship announced the possible cooperation with the Swiss company. So far, only the Finnish company "JHC Arena Holding Oy Ltd." has submitted precise estimates concerning construction of the arena, Kreituss stressed.
Besides, the Riga City Council plans only to lease out a land plot within the framework of the project, and will not participate in the project in any other way, Kreituss said.
Whereas Janis Liepins, the head of the Riga City Council's Legal Department, repeated to LETA what Riga Mayor Gundars Bojars had said, that the city council's only partner in the project on construction of the arena was the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation. He knows nothing about a Finnish lawyer who, at the request of the Riga City Council, has allegedly evaluated a contract with the IMS, as the newspaper "Neatkariga Rita Avize" reported today.
