Anatolijs Gorbunovs doesnģt values his job as satisfactory

At the beginning of the conference Anatolijs Gorbunovs agreed, that situation with roads in Latvia is the priority that should be emphasized in new budget with extra finances. There was question at the conference that most of country roads are in critical situation and more fuel is used while driving on those roads than driving on good roads, so maybe somebody is interested in keeping those roads in this condition, because it could reduce consumption of fuel? Minister answered, that Ministry of traffic several times paid attention to country roads and they found that they are in critical condition, so government supported proposition to give 60% of the excise tax on fuel for the keeping in order of roads instead of 50%.
Readers were indignant, that more investments from abroad are not attract to keep in order roads, but because every investor can determine which roads should be renovated on his resources, then mainly they are given for building of Via Baltic.
Minister explained, that Latviaģs roads are in worth condition that in Lithuania, because there is accumulated deficit of budget, that doesnģt let put aside enough resources for roads.
A. Gorbunovs agreed, that repairing of the holes, that are done very intense now, is only extra waste of money, but it canģt be avoided, because there are not enough money for renovation of roads. Immediate is repairing of so-called crash holes (deeper than 5 centimeters), because they create danger for traffic safety.
Minister bears the blame that he was not able to convince all three governments that financing for the roads should be enlarged. There is positive decision made, which should be accepted by Saeima. Minister doesnģt values his job as satisfactory until this decision is made.
