"Bite GSM" and Smidre's concern qualify for auction of third UMTS/GSM license
"Bite GSM", the Lithuanian subsidiary of the Danish telecommunications company TDC, and businessman Peteris Smidre^apostrofs;s concern that includes Smidre^apostrofs;s "Alina Ltd." and the U.S. investment fund "MVC Capital Inc." have qualified for auction of the third UMTS/GSM mobile telecommunications license.

The Transport Ministry's deputy state secretary Guntis Macs, the head of the auction commission, declined to tell LETA how many bidders had applied overall. Bidders who have not qualified will not be disclosed either.
The auction will be held on March 31, the government will approve the results of the auction by April 19.
The license's starting price is LVL 1.3 million. The new operator will have to build an independent network of electronic communications and invest EUR 150 million into the business in one year's time.
