Certification center of Latvia Science Academy LSA became a first national institution, that received Great Britain accreditation bureau United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accreditation certificate for evaluation of adequacy of building materials, agency LETA was informed by Imants Matīss, director of certification center of LSA.
As it was indicated by Matīss, UKAS is one of most prestige institution that does evaluation of adequacy to EU standards for institutions of testing laboratory, certification and inspection at the world. It means, this decision that Certification center complies with EU standards should be evaluated as success and serious application for recognition of Latviaģs certificates in other countries.
If building materials doesnģt meet requirements of safety or are not built in or used properly, they can become a threaten to people and environment and property. Because of that, state rules and authorization of evaluation institutions for such tasks regulate evaluation of adequacy of building materials and other potentially danger materials. Certification center of LSA is stateģs authorized institution at the area of the evaluation of building materials.
Senate of LSA founded certification center of LSA at April 15, 1994, and its founders are Academy, Latvijas Standarts State Ltd., and Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Main function of the center is certification of productģs and quality systems, but especially intense work is in productģs certification area. Employees of the center participate in solving of other tasks that are related to the quality, for example, developing of the national standards of quality and environment management systems, standards of adequacy evaluation and scientific work.
Certification center of LSA cooperates with other Baltic states and leading companies in certification of building materials from Finland, so results of evaluation, that are given in one country, could be used for certification in Latvia, that could substantially reduce the price of this service.
