Construction costs stopped falling in Q4 last year

Costs of construction of private homes increased the most, 5.2 percent, as well as costs of renovation of administrative buildings - 5 percent.
Costs of reconstruction and construction of industrial, agricultural and trade facilities increased 1.8 percent, costs of renovation of educational and health care establishments grew 1.3 percent, costs of construction of transport facilities grew 0.5 percent. Only costs of construction of underground pipelines decreased 1.9 percent.
Workers' wages also increased considerably, by 7.6 percent. Costs of maintenance of machinery and mechanisms increased 2.1 percent. In the meantime, prices for construction materials decreased 0.8 percent.
By comparison with the third quarter last year, construction costs increased in each of the surveyed types of facilities, by an average 2.6 percent, in the last quarter of 2003.
Costs of construction of underground pipelines increased the most, 4.7 percent, costs of construction of private homes grew 3.1 percent, renovation of administrative buildings - 2.8 percent. Workers' wages increased 3.6 percent, prices for construction materials - 2.5 percent. In the meantime, costs of maintenance of machinery and mechanisms decreased by 0.1 percent.
Regardless of the higher construction costs in the fourth quarter last year, construction costs in 2003 decreased by 1.3 percent overall from 2002.
Construction costs have been falling for already four years - in 2002 construction prices fell 2.9 percent year-on-year, by 5 percent in 2001 and by 1.9 percent in 2000.
