Construction of new "Skonto" arenas officially opened
The foundation for three new multi-functional sports, entertainment and exhibition halls at the Olympic Center "Skonto" in central Riga will be laid during an official ceremony today.
The foundation for three new multi-functional sports, entertainment and exhibition halls at the Olympic Center "Skonto" in central Riga will be laid during an official ceremony today.
One of the arenas will be meant for exhibitions and entertainment events, the second will be a basketball arena with 3,000 seats and the third - a hockey arena. All three arenas will be adjusted for concerts, exhibitions and other events. The complex will be available for both professional and amateur athletes.
According to a schedule, the "Skonto" complex will become the largest multi-functional center in Latvia covering six hectares with four arenas and multi-functional stadium.
Already now, various entertainment and sports events as well as international fairs have been held in "Skonto" Stadium and Olympic Hall.
The new complex will be launched in March of next year and the international automobile fair "Auto 2003" is set for April.
After the official ceremony today, a qualification football match will take place within the European Champion League between Riga's "Skonto" and the Welsh "Barry Town".
