The Latvian Hockey Federation's (LHF) board will decide on the best bid for a new hockey arena for the planned 2006 world championship in Riga on August 30, LHF President Kirovs Lipmans told LETA.
Previously, the LHF meeting was to convene on August 26. However, one of the bidders - "Metala buvju sistemas Ltd." turned to LHF requesting to postpone selecting constructor of the arena until August 30. "Metala buvju sistemas", which is a Swiss and British companies' group, has launched negotiations with another bidder - "Multihalle Ltd." on a joint project.
Lipmans expressed satisfaction with the decision made by the Riga City Council according to which a land site of 452,980 square meters in Lucavsala in Riga has been reserved for the project.
In Lipmans' view, this area should be used for athletic purposes in any case. If the ice hockey arena is not built there, it should be utilized for construction of a smaller arena.
As reported, on July 15, LHF board was to select one of the potential constructors of the ice arena - "SCI Stadium Consultants International", "IMS Studio 6", "Metala buvju sistemas Ltd." or "Multihalle Ltd.".
The decision was not made and the issue was postponed until August because of the unresolved land site matter.
