After debate that lasted nearly two hours, the organizing committee for the 2006 ice hockey world championship in Riga decided yesterday evening to overturn its decision, adopted one month ago, that the Swiss company "IMS Studio 6" had submitted the best bill for organizing construction of the ice hockey arena in Riga.
The decision was adopted because "IMS Studio 6" had not submitted a draft contract on time, Prime Minister Andris Berzins, the chairman of the organizing committee, told reporters.
It was decided that the organizing committee would now only be a supervisory institution. According to the premier, this means that construction of the ice hockey arena has been de-politicized and Latvian Ice Hockey Federation will have to decide which company will construct the arena.
