EBRD ready to participate in cellulose plant project

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is ready to participate in the cellulose plant project in eastern Latvia by granting experts' assistance and funding.
As Jean Lemierre, the president of EBRD, told a press conference today, the project is important for the state and if sponsors of the project and government call on EBRD to back it, EBRD will be ready to aid the project.
Lemierre praised discussion on the construction of the plant because a logical decision could be made only following such discussions. Currently, major debate is about wood supply for the plant and discussing social and industrial dimension.
The EBRD president stressed that EBRD would not compete with other interested parties since it is not the bank's goal. EBRD is an international institution for backing successful and prospective projects.
