According to Kalviskis, negotiations are underway with several financial institutions, including "Parex Bank".
Total construction costs are estimated at EUR 25-30 million.
Mass media reported earlier that Riga City Council could participate in the project by allotting a land plot for construction of the arena. Andris Ameriks, chairman of the Riga City Council's City Development Committee, told LETA that such a decision could only be adopted by the city council. However, it requires proposals from not only "Multihalle" but also prospective creditors, and information on conditions for issuing the loan needed for raising the arena, he said.
Talks should also be held with the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation. Riga City Council has got no specific proposals at this time, Ameriks added.
"Parex Bank" believes that implementing the project is unlikely if the city council does not get involved in it, newspaper "Neatkariga Rita Avize" reported.
As reported, Latvia signed an agreement with the International Ice Hockey Federation in October 2001 on holding the 2006 world ice hockey championship in Riga. The Latvian Ice Hockey Federation, the 2006 World Ice Hockey Championships board and "Multihalle" have confirmed they are ready to launch construction of the ice hockey arena required for organizing the championships and ensure that the championships be successful, provided that they receive required backing from the state.
Construction of the arena is to begin in January 2004, it could be concluded by September 2005.
