About EUR 20 million (LVL 13.28 million) are planned for investments in the second round of construction in the immediate area of the "Reval Hotel Latvia" in the center of Riga.
After completion of construction, the hotel will be the largest one in the Baltic states with 600 rooms. A six-story building with 200 rooms is planned, a one-story shopping passage, and a multi-functional conference hall with 1,000 seats, instead of the previous exhibition center "Latvija", said Heikki Vanhanen, head of "Reval" hotels in Latvia.
Egil Bauer-Nilsen, President and CEO of "Linstow International", told reporters that expansion of the hotel is to be completed in time for the 2006 Ice Hockey Championship.
The construction job will start in October and be completed by April of 2006. The total area of construction will cover 24,000 square meters.
As Janis Norde from the architectural offices "Poga&Sarma&Norde" reported, third and fourth rounds are also planned.
According to Vanhanen, demand in the hotel sectors is on the increase, central and and southern European residents are showing more interest in Latvia. The greater influx of tourists is boosted by Latvia's accession to the European Union and NATO.
The "Linstow" Group company ordered the project.
"Linstow" Group owns the hotel.
