During the negotiations, which have been launched already five months ago, no acceptable compromise has been reached yet, Viktors Purins, president of the Latvian Construction Association, informed LETA. The current situation has caused major losses for the construction companies, and they are starting to suspect the state will not observe its liabilities.
No guarantees have been received that, if most construction work is postponed until next year and 2005, the government will honor the contracts.
The interior ministry still has not paid a number of companies for construction work on the eastern border they have carried out. The State Revenue Service claims taxes for the completed construction work, even though the ministry has not yet paid for the work.
