Economy Ministry says "Latvenergo" will not be privatized

According to the restructuring plans, the company will be transformed into a concern with several subsidiaries, LETA learned from the Economy Ministry's Public Relations Department.
An independent operator of power transmission systems will be one of the most important parts of the concern, said the Economy Ministry. The operator will be able to make decisions independently of the electricity producer, for instance, choose a supplier who offers more favorable tariffs.
Restructuring "Latvenergo" has nothing to do with privatization, because the law on completing use of privatization vouchers in privatization of state and municipal property provides that "Latvenergo" cannot be privatized. The same is set in the Energy Law, reminds the ministry.
The trade union "Energija" earlier said, after analyzing the law on completing privatization, that it was concerned about another attempt to secretly privatize "Latvenergo".
