Exhibition about art nouveau in Riga is opened at Portugal

Rolands Lappuķe, ambassador of Latvia in Portugal, opened exhibition about art nouveau architecture in Riga at June 21 in Lisbonģs architects? society house, agency LETA was informed by Latvia embassy in Portugal.
Riga Technical Universityģs head of architecture faculty, professor Jānis Krastiņš participated and read the report at the opening of the exhibition. He indirectly created conviction about our belonging to the West Europe by comparing buildings in Riga with others in Europe and showing slides.
Embassy informed, that author of the exhibition is architect and ambassador in Sweden Jānis Dripe. Lisbon is eleventh capital of the Europe, where this exhibition is held.
Ambassador of Latvia in Portugal believes, that right now we have to emphasize creation of the cultural link between Portugal and Latvia, because Riga together with north town of Portugal - Porto - fight out rights to be Europe Culture metropolis at 2001. Porto has rights to be Culture metropolis during the all year, but Riga at August and September.
Latvia embassy in Portugal celebrates Riga 800 by this art nouveau architecture exhibition.
Jaime Gama, foreign Secretary of Portugal, visited Riga at June 19, two days before the opening of the exhibition. He admired Riga art nouveau architecture during the special walk in Riga.
Embassy informs, that exhibition was created with the assistance of Foreign office of Latvia, Latvia State History archive and Latvia architect's society.
