Agency LETA was informed by the press secretary of the forum Līga Gaisa that the forum will be announced open by the president of Latvia Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga and the prince consort of Denmark Henrik.
The conference will begin with a visit to Riga College of Applied Arts, which is located in a wooden building at 55 Lacplesa Street, Riga. The organisation is trying to renovate and adapt it to modern requirements.
540 000 USD are necessary for the renovation, the full sum has not been yet collected. There are companies found which are willing to donate plumbing equipment, paints and other materials for the renovation of the building.
There is a surprise for the members of the conference in the back yard of the building - a wooden tea pavilion from 75 Elijas street.
Approximately 250 delegates from different European countries are present at the conference and they are representing heritage associations on local, regional and national level. There are also delegates from Latvia and other Baltic States.
The conference will be dealing with wooden Riga in the European context, wooden architecture in Estonian towns, conservation of wooden structure in towns, the loss of authenticity and other problems.
