Minister of Regional Development and Local Government Affairs Ivars Gaters recommends suspending construction of the "Sun Stone" business complex in Riga's Kipsala, in explaining his stance on development of the riverside area.
The high-rise building under construction, which is to house "Hansabanka's" offices, is located on the left bank of the Daugava River, near Vansu Bridge.
When asked by the People's Party Edmunds Krastins, how the situation with "Sun Stone" could be solved, Gaters said that a decision on suspending the construction had to be adopted, and the question of Kipsala's development and necessary amendments decided then.
If respective authorities authorize changing Kipsala territorial planning strategy, the construction could be continued. If not - the "Sun Stone" project could be altered, Gaters said.
Gaters also said the decision on support for construction of a "pile village" in Kipsala by "Euroline Ltd.", adopted by the Riga City Council's City Development Commission, should be revoked.
Riga City Council's decisions must be coordinated with regulations that were passed earlier, the Kipsala territorial planning strategy in this case, Gaters stressed. If the strategy is changed, then the city council's deputies will be able to decide on supporting such projects.
