Greens stage action to protest felling of trees at Riga Canal
Today, the Green Party of Latvia is staging a campaign in downtown Riga to protest felling of trees at the Riga Canal, LETA was told by Viesturs Silenieks, the manager of the party^apostrofs;s central office.
Today, the Green Party of Latvia is staging a campaign in downtown Riga to protest felling of trees at the Riga Canal, LETA was told by Viesturs Silenieks, the manager of the party's central office.
The Greens will tie placards around the trees which are to be cut, telling each tree's approximate age, according to the Riga City Council's decree. The marked trees are located at the canal between 13 Janvara Street (near the south side of the opera house) and Bastejkalns park bridge. More than 50 trees are to be felled in this section.
Silenieks explained that the goal of the Green Party is to attract the attention of the community, and mostly the Riga City Council, ahead of the of a debate on the trees at the canal that will be held at the municipality Friday.
