Helsingin Energia and Etelä-Pohjanmaan Voima have announced their plan to construct two offshore wind power parks that could generate a total of even 2000MW. Suitable locations are searched for in the Gulf of Bothnia as well as in the Gulf of Finland.
Fortum has reserved two locations in the Bay of Bothnia for the construction of wind power parks. Large wind power parks are extremely expensive.
According to estimates, thousand megawatts of wind power cost approximately EUR 2 billion. The location effects the productivity of wind power parks, but most important for their construction are European and Finnish energy political guidelines and financial support.
