According to Siksnis, generating facilities at Riga TEC-1 are worn out therefore a renovation project will be launched in order to upgrade the system. A new gas-steam combined complex will be installed on the territory of Riga TEC-1, connecting it to local infrastructure.
"Firma L4 Ltd." worked out the report on the impact on the environment at the request of "Latvenergo."
According to the report, considerable consumption of water resources is expected and a drop in emission of hazardous substances as a result of the project.
Representatives from the State Office for Evaluation of Impact on the Environment took part in the discussion, as well as Greater Riga Region Environmental Administration, Riga City Council's Northern District Executive Administration, the Mezaparks Development Union, and private individuals.
The report has been handed in to the above state office.
Siksnis pointed out that "Latvenergo" did not receive any reprimands about any violations of environmental protection norms last year.
In 2001, emissions of hazardous substances in the atmosphere were considerably less than restrictions set by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development.
