"Kalnozols celtnieciba" and "Tehnika" receive Latvian Quality Awards
The annual Latvian Quality Awards this year went to the construction company "Kalnozols celtnieciba Ltd." among large companies, and "Tehnika Ltd." was selected as the best among small and medium-sized companies during an international conference on quality management yesterday, LETA learned at the Ministry of Economy.

Last year, the metal processing company "Tehnika", located in rural Auce, received an encouragement award for achievements in observing general quality management principles.
Overall, five companies applied for the Latvian Quality Awards in 2002 - two large companies and three small and medium-sized enterprises.
This is the sixth year the Latvian Quality Award ceremony is held. The Latvian Quality Award was established in 1997 according to the framework drawn up by the European quality management fund.
Representatives from the Economy Ministry were included in the jury this year, as well as from Riga Technical University, University of Latvia, Latvian Academy of Sciences, Latvian Commercial Banks' Association, Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The jury was chaired by the economy minister.
In 2001, the Latvian Quality Award was granted to the college "Biznesa augstskola "Turiba" Ltd." among small and medium-sized enterprises, "Latvijas energoceltnieks Ltd." received the award in the large companies' group.
All factors that influence a company's operations were evaluated by the jury, ranging from defining strategy and goals to business performance, response from clients and company's employees, and others.
