On Friday, representatives from both companies confirmed to Lipmans by telephone that negotiations on the signing of the mutual contract are almost completed, only some details are left to be agreed yet.
The LHF president reminded that International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is showing interest in signing the contract between the winners of the tender, and IIHF Secretary General Jan-Ake Edvinsson intends to visit Riga in order to become acquainted with the contract firsthand.
As reported, IIHF declared that it would supervise Latvia's readiness for hosting the championship more closely.
As Lipmans confirmed earlier, according to a schedule, cooperation contract between LHF and constructors must be signed by October 1. After that, a design project for the arena is to be drawn up and on May 1, 2003, the foundation-stone laid.
If Latvia fails to carry out the above conditions and the organization of the 2006 championship in Riga becomes doubtful, Russia could possibly organize it as it had shown interest in such a possibility.
