The Latvian Ice Hockey Federation (LHF) released an official statement today, which says that any business ties with the Swiss company "IMS Studio 6" have been suspended.
The Latvian Ice Hockey Federation (LHF) released an official statement today, which says that any business ties with the Swiss company "IMS Studio 6" have been suspended.
The LHF president Kirovs Lipmans has signed the statement.
The LHF announces that it will continue reviewing bids submitted by any possible investors. Since "IMS Studio 6" has not submitted a draft agreement by the set day, any business with this company will be halted, the statement says.
According to the LHF, Finance Minister Gundars Berzins' statement that "IMS Studio 6" will be in Riga on May 27 in order to sign an agreement with Lipmans is incorrect. The federation emphasizes that the "IMS Studio 6" president Goran Takac will indeed arrive in Riga on May 27, nevertheless, his letter received on May 14 says that he will be in Riga in order to sign a B.O.T. (Build, Operate and Transfer) agreement with the organizing committee for ice hockey world championship in 2006, provided that the agreement's conditions are good for both sides.
According to the LHF, the organizing committee solely holds the right to sign such agreement, not Lipmans. This means that Lipmans has no right to sign the proposed agreement, and had no intention of doing so.
LHF says in the statement that during the past several weeks, the organizing committee was being used for political battles. This is why LHF is pleased about the organizing committee's May 15 decision to take on only supervisory functions, and leave the matter of the multi-functional ice hockey arena to the LHF.
LHF assumes responsibility for organizing the 2006 ice hockey world championship in Riga according to International Ice Hockey Federation regulations and requirements set by the organizing committee, Lipmans emphasizes.
