Sunday landslide at the Turaida Castle Mound will prompt safeguarding measures, the Gauja National Park press secretary Kristine Melece hopes. The mass of earth that has blocked the road at the base of the mound is to be removed today, Melece told LETA.

The strip of land that slid down the slope was saturated with water and was to be removed anyway.

Developing the project of the Turaida Castle Mound safeguarding measures was completed last November and approved by authorities, the project was later amended slightly. Some of the safeguarding measures have already been carried out.
