Latvia does not see any discrimination of companies in Riga port as the Lithuanian ferry operator "Lisco Baltic Service" has been claiming.
The European Commission (EC) will be notified about Latvia's position, which was approved by the government yesterday, pertaining to the complaint Lithuania had submitted to the EC on alleged unfair competition in Riga port.
The EC demanded an explanation from Latvia about the complaint. The government reviewed the issue in closed session yesterday.
Minister of Transport Ainars Slesers also does not see any discrimination, as he already earlier told his Lithuanian counterpart.
Last year, "Lisco Baltic Service", owned by the Danish shipping company, which operates trips on the Riga-Luebeck route, handed in a complaint about the Riga port to the EC competitiveness directorate general.
The Lithuanian company expressed dissatisfaction about the Riga Freeport board's decision to deny extension of a 95 percent discount on port fees for the "Lisco Baltic Service" ferries. The ferry company "Rigas juras linija", whose shareholders are the Riga Freeport and the Riga City Council, received the discount.
