Latvia participates in Washington conference on rebuilding Iraq
A conference organized by the U.S. Energy Association is scheduled in Washington today and tomorrow, June 12, to discuss the role of international organizations in rebuilding Iraq, LETA was informed by the diplomat for economic affairs at the Latvian Embassy, Ivita Burkmistre.

Valdis Birkavs, Latvia's representative in the talks on Iraq, is also participating in the conference.
Issues being focused on pertain to involving international organizations in restoring Iraq, including the U.N. Development Program (UNDP) and USAID. Evaluation of tasks and development tendencies in infrastructure and the power sector are also to be discussed at the conference.
In May, several Latvian construction firms - "Re & Re", "Kalnozols celtnieciba", "RBS Skals", "Skonto buve", "Latvijas energoceltnieks" (LEC) and "BMGS" - united in order to successfully participate in the tenders for the American "Bechtel National Inc.".
As LETA was informed by "Kalnozols celtnieciba" director, Ojars Bite, no specific offers have yet been made by the American firm.
