The Association of Latvian Constructors' Director Martins Straume told the association's congress today that the professionalism of major Latvian construction companies' specialists does not lag behind leading foreign specialists', however, payment for similar work to foreign specialists is five to ten times higher than in Latvia.
In utilizing EU funding in Latvia, the demand for services of engineers and consultants will grow in the following spheres - preparing preliminary draft documentation, expertise of design projects, technical inspection, project management.
According to Straume, insufficient quality services for respectively lower costs will be provided if no additional professional instruction is carried out.
The congress decided to accept hourly pay rates for certified engineer-consultants, construction project experts, inspectors and supervisors in accordance with their competence level.
The association will also carry out the necessary organizational work in the future to ensure professional instruction for construction specialists, assessment of their skills and recommending them for the construction market.
The board of the Association of Latvian Constructors decided that in cases where the hourly pay rate is reduced by more than 20%, compared to the rates set by the association's board, it will be considered unfair competition.
There are 569 members in the Association of Latvian Constructors.
