Although the Russian media reported recently that the supply of crude oil to the "Mazeikiu Nafta" concern from the Russian "Yukos" would be terminated, the Lithuanian oil refinery will receive oil from other suppliers, the Lithuanian news agency ELTA reports today.
The Lithuanian vice-minister of economy Nerijus Eidukevicius said that according to an approved timetable for supply of crude oil in the second quarter, the oil refinery should receive 1.8 million tons of crude.
"It is very important to us that we have a supply timetable and the suppliers to pump oil to "Mazeikiu Nafta"," Eidukevicius said.
Giedrius Karsokas, an official representative of the Lithuanian oil refinery, declined to comment on an article that appeared in the Russian publication "Vedomosti". The article stated that the supply of crude oil to the Lithuanian plant would be terminated since it was not included on a timetable for exports of crude oil to the region.
In past years, "Yukos" has been the major supplier of crude oil to "Mazeikiu Nafta". In an agreement between Yukos and the Lithuanian government, the company pledged to pump no less than 4.8 million tons of oil a year to the refinery in Lithuania.
In two months of this year, "Mazeikiu Nafta", processed 1.444 million tons of crude oil which was by 4.6% down from the respective period last year.
"Jukos" currently holds 53.7% stake in "Mazeikiu Nafta". The state of Lithuania holds 40.66% stake in the oil concern, but 5.64% are held by minor shareholders.
