Construction company "Merks Ltd.", that is to invest money into construction of an ice hockey arena in Riga and raise the arena, has agreed in principle to provide the government with a guarantee that the construction would be completed on time.
"Multihalle Ltd." public relations manager Vija Kasakovska explained LETA that after a meeting of "Multihalle" and "Merks" executives, "Multihalle's" proposals for the guarantee agreement were sent to the government. According to "Multihalle" executive director Ivars Kalviskis, these documents explain the businessmen's position on the issue. "Merks" has agreed in principle to present the necessary guarantee to "Multihalle", and "Multihalle" will therefore be able to forward the guarantee to the government after the agreement is signed, Kalviskis said.
"Multihalle" is grateful to the government for extending the deadline for signing the agreement until April 1. This means that "Merks" and "Multihalle" will have time yet to reach an agreement too.
The government earlier called on both companies to sign an agreement with the government by Wednesday on guarantees for construction of the arena, which is a precondition for holding the 2006 World Ice Hockey Championships in Riga. According to the government, the guarantee should be EUR 2.6 million. The agreement would stipulate the arena's construction terms and all parties' liabilities and rights.
