"Merks" will be investor for multifunctional arena

Asked whether "Merks" has been selected as an investor for the project, Kalviskis gave a positive reply.
The "Multihalle" board chairman added that a press conference would be held in the near future to give latest information about implementation the project of the ice arena for the 2006 ice hockey championship.
The Estonian concern "Merko Ehitus" group's company in Latvia, "Merks Ltd." director general Ivars Geidans confirmed to LETA earlier that the company would agree to assume construction of the multifunctional hall in Riga.
As reported, "Multihalle" demanded the state guarantee over a EUR 13 million loan (LVL 8.7 million) for the project. Among would-be investors lately were mentioned the German company "Walter Bau", Canadian company "SCI Stadium" and French "Bouygues".
On January 28, 2003, Riga City Council decided to rent out 17 hectares in the vicinity of Skanstes Street to "Multihalle" for construction of the ice arena; besides a land plot of 15 ha has been reserved for two years.
