Riga City Council Chairman Gundars Bojars approved of the preparations under way at "Skonto" Center for the 2003 "Eurovision" Song Contest, and pointed out that the area in the vicinity of the center, which is not completely tidied up, would not spoil the event since "foreigners like contrasts."

Bojars said that the preparation period was short, therefore tidying up the area is incomplete but foreigners "even like the shabby facades" of buildings and the wooden houses on Dzirnavu Street as they contrast with the splendid hotels, Old Town and Art Nouveau architecture.
Bojars praised the work of the contest's organizers, admitting that he had doubted whether the job would be done according to schedule.
"Eurovision 2003" Executive Producer Brigita Rozenbrika and press secretary, Ingrida Smite accompanied Bojars on the huge stage and the press center offices. Bojars admitted "enormous changes and improvements" in the center.
