2010/31EU – this seemingly harmless sequence of numbers and letters is the designation of the latest European Union Energy Performance of Buildings directive, also known as EnEV 2014. The industry is reacting to these revised requirements with a range of new products, including many in the field of heat insulation for roofs. Exhibitors at the ROOF+TIMBER International will be presenting their new technologies and latest developments in the field of roof, wall and sealing engineering, all designed to  comply with future demands for increased overall energy efficiency in buildings. Of the more than 550 exhibitors from 26 countries (as of 26.11.2013) to be attending this  trade fair, 170 operate in the field of flat and pitched roofs. And virtually all of them will have new products on display to present to its international trade visitors. The following represents just a small sample.

Munich/Cologne, 02.12.2013 – from roofing materials, edgings and end profiles to roof windows and greening and on to sealing and insulation systems – three of the four exhibition halls that house the exhibition are dedicated to the interests of specialists in roofing and facade materials. Hall 6 is all about pitched roofs, roof sheeting and metal roofing. Hall 8 is devoted to metalworking, fall protection and scaffolding. Suppliers of flat roofs, facades and drainage systems can be found in Hall 9.

One company who has been regularly present at the ROOF+TIMBER International is the flat-roof system manufacturer alwitra (Hall 9, Stand 302), and it will also be there again this year. 'This is the number-one trade fair in Europe for the roofing and timber industry. We always enjoy the direct contact it gives us with specialists in the building trade.

We will also be making the most of our stand in Cologne to launch numerous new products, just in time for the fiftieth anniversary of our company,' explains Joachim Gussner, owner of alwitra GmbH. One of the new products alwitra will be presenting at the exhibition is the EVALASTIC® VGSK roof-sheeting and sealing system with integrated fire-protection, designed to be stuck directly to uncoated EPS hard foam panels. The flat-roof specialist from Trier will also be introducing its new daylight system products to trade visitors, including a skylight dome range plus the new Brakel® Greenlight flat-roof skylight, which is made from aluminium and glass.

Rathscheck Schiefer will present a new above-rafter roofing solution at the ROOF+TIMBER International (Hall 6, Stand 502): ThermoSklent D is an above-rafter insulating element for use with pitched roofs. The element not only fulfils the requirements of EnEV 2014, but it can also be covered over with nail or screw-fit, 22-millimetre-thick wooden composite panels. It also has a stepped rebate along its long side, which makes it easier for roofers to assemble on uneven roof trusses.

Paul Bauder GmbH & Co. KG (Hall 6, Stand 520) is another company to use the ROOF+TIMBER International for launching new products onto the market.

The latest products from this Stuttgart company are designed specifically to comply with EnEV 2014. For example, the roofing specialists will be displaying insulating elements for pitched and flat roofs made of high-performance rigid polyurethane foam material, with thicknesses of up to 240 millimetres, which comply with the passive house standard. In addition to thicker insulating materials, Bauder will also be presenting a new product developed from BauderPIR above-rafter insulating elements, designed for use on pitched roofs. System additions for roof greening and flat-roof solutions will also be on display at the Bauder stand.

The new product from ISO-Chemie GmbH (Hall 7, Stand 129 A) also satisfies the requirements of EnEV 2014. The company will be presenting its iso metal construction sealing system in Cologne for the first time. These sealing strips and profile fillers are used in all types of joint constructions in lightweight metal buildings. They are suitable for all roof and wall structures employing steel cassette profiles and sandwich elements.

Wienerberger GmbH (Hall 6, Stand 309) has two new tile solutions that it will be presenting at the ROOF+TIMBER International. These two roofing products – Plano 11 and Alegra 12 – both comply with the EnEV 2014 specifications, promising great flexibility to roofers and saving clients the considerable cost of preparing the substructure, thanks to the large sliding range of the head fold of both the Plano 11 (approx. 20 mm) and Alegra 12 (approx. 30 mm). Both products are available with eaves-side termination. The two models can both be used by roofers as verge tiles.

Monier Braas GmbH (Hall 6, Stand 510) will not only be presenting its range of roofing tiles to an international audience of trade visitors but also, and in particular, its new Achat 10V hollow-fold tiles. With an adjustment range of up to 30mm in coverage length and a weight of 3.9 kg, these tiles are suitable both for new construction projects and for renovating existing roof structures.

They are also suitable for use on large-area roof surfaces. Eleven tiles can cover one square metre of roof surface. Roofers can offer their customers Achat 10 V tiles in the colours anthracite, natural red, copper red, and slate.

The main focus of the presentation by Lamilux GmbH (Hall 9, Stand 309) is on its newly developed daylight element. Roofers, architects and planners at the event can obtain information about the new LAMILUX CI system glass element FEenergysave+. According to the manufacturer, this new system is the first passive-house-certified skylight element to fulfil the stringent passive- house requirements for cold climatic regions, such as Scandinavia. A decisive criterion for awarding this certification was that it displayed a heat transition coefficient of below 0.80 W/(m2K).

The new product from Velux (Hall 6, Stands 224 and 324) will thrill children and ensure they dream sweetly. In addition to its skylight window range for pitched and flat roofs, the Hamburg firm now offers a new range of sun-shade products designed especially for installation in children's bedrooms, which it will be presenting at the ROOF+TIMBER International. The sun-blind was designed in association with the Disney group, and displays popular characters like Bambi, Mickey Mouse or Baloo the Bear.
