A majority of businessmen, surveyed by the paper "Dienas Bizness" (DB), are dissatisfied with the hasty organization of the "Riga Expo" fair in Moscow and say that the event was a flop.
"Riga Expo" closed yesterday.
LETA was told by the head of the PR department at the Riga City Council, Guntars Kukuls, told LETA earlier that both businessmen and representatives of the Moscow city government with whom Riga City Council Chairman Gundars Bojars had met in Moscow, showed great interest in the pending exhibition and Latvian businessmen.
"Konkas" deputy director, Viktorija Skovorodko, expresses her dissatisfaction with the fair. Despite the fact that the company had reserved the area in the fair first, it had to change its location in favor of the general sponsor. Organization of the fair had insufficient advertising and a lack of visitors and, in Skovorodko's view, organization of the fair was a waste of money.
The director general at work apparel maker "Sakta Ltd.", Dzintra Klavina, is convinced that she will not participate in the next event since no partner was found in the first two days and participation in previous "Riga Expo" fairs also were unsuccessful. The company "Zions" production director, Natalija Kuznecova, also admits that she had hoped for more interest from businessmen. In Kuznecova's view, the lack of information was behind the failure since no information about the event was seen even at the entrance to the fair.
Few people attended seminars within the contact-stock-exchanges Riga-Moscow held by the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The head of Liepaja branch of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Girts Kronbergs, promised businessmen to pay back financing allotted for the event. The chamber had looked for business partners with the help of the firm "Profitek", following the advice of Tallinn colleagues, but "its performance was poor".
The organizer of the fair - "Prima Skonto" evaluated the fair as successful as those companies "which themselves were active such as "Parekss banka", "Rebir", "Krasainie lejumi", "Baltijas baseini" were quite satisfied," the representative from "Prima Skonto" tells the newspaper.
