LVL 4 million have been invested in the recently-opened "Citymarket" supermarket at 33a Pulkveza Brieza Street, "Kesko Food Ltd." Marketing Director Liga Busa reported to LETA.
The new "Citymarket's" total area is 5,000 square meters, it employs 100 people.
Several amenities have been developed in the vicinity of the new department store - the Hanzas Street and Rupniecibas Street intersection has been renovated, traffic lights erected, infrastructure improved in the store's vicinity. A parking lot has been created for 250 automobiles.
"Citymarket" on Brieza Street is located in a favorable area because there are no convenient stores there with an extensive selection of products. Therefore a large numbers of customers are expected.
A "Kesko Food" shopping center is to be opened in Liepaja next June, its total area will be 8,200 square meters. Most of the area will be occupied by "Citymarket", the rest will be leased out to other enterprises. Construction of a "Citymarket" supermarket in Ventspils is to be completed next summer.
"Kesko Food's" net turnover in Latvia amounted to LVL 7.9 million in the past ten months, up from LVL 2.3 million last year.
"Kesko Food" plans to open 10-15 "Citymarket" food stores in Latvia, and 50-60 discount stores "Supernetto". The company plans to control 25 percent of the Baltic food retail market in coming years.
