A new building is to be raised for the Jewish Secondary School in Riga in the near future, the newspaper "Telegraf" reports.
According to the newspaper, the new building's corner stone will be laid in the near future. The school currently occupies two old buildings.
Construction of the new building will be financed by the Riga Jewish Community and The Ronald S. Lauder Foundation. The project's total costs are estimated at USD 4 million. The school is to be constructed in 18 months.
The Riga City Council has reserved a plot of land on Barona Street, not far from the "Daugava" sports complex, for construction of the school.
The Jewish Community plans to receive most funds required for construction of the school from Ronald S. Lauder Foundation. Lauder visited Riga last November. The ultimate agreement between the community and the foundation could be reached in March.
It is expected that other Western organizations and foundations and local businessmen will also participate in the construction of the school.
According to the Jewish Community's head Arkadijs Suharenko, the community will see that the school offers qualitative education - only the best will be admitted, and the best teachers will be invited to work in the school.
