During the joint breakfast with coalition partners today, Prime Minister Einars Repse promised to hold a meeting with several Cabinet ministers to review the matter of the major construction projects sprouting up in Riga.
As LETA was informed by For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK's parliamentary leader Maris Grinblats, the meeting will focus on the so-called "Saules akmens" (Sun Stone) high-rise office building near Vansu Bridge on the left bank of the Daugava, and businessmen Viesturs Koziols' represented company "Euroline's" plan to widen Pardaugava's Kipsala area with a "pile dwelling village."
According to Grinblats, construction is under way in a zone that is considered part of Riga's center, and usually, "construction is launched, and paperwork taken care of later." He commented that, in knowing the prime minister's persistence, quite possibly the high-rise will become smaller.
"Sun Stone" is to be "Hansabanka's" new office building, and its cornerstone was placed on February 14. Costs of the project are being estimated at about LVL 20 million.
The Riga City Council's City Development Committee last week approved in principle another construction project near Vansu Bridge in Kipsala - a 7-hectare village, initiated by "Euroline", called "Sand Land".
"Sand Land" would see between USD 50-60 million in investments as the widened Kipsala peninsula would include family homes, retail and business centers, recreational facilities, a yacht club, etc. No building would be higher than 7 floors.
