The Prosecutor General's Office has launched a probe into implementation of a project of a new administrative building for the Ministry of Interior at 15 Gaujas Street in Riga.
The probe will be conducted by the Personal and State Rights Protection Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, the office's press secretary Dzintra Subrovska told LETA.
As reported, the government suspended Real Estate Agency Director General Kalvis Bricis from his duties at the end of 2002 pending an internal investigation of said project, in which the government had ascertained misappropriation of state financing.
The investigation was launched at the initiative of the Minister of Interior Maris Gulbis.
The Cabinet of Ministers suspended implementation of the project on December 27.
Several Interior Ministry's organizations were to be moved to the complex of buildings on Gaujas Street, worth LVL 24.6 million. The Real Estate Agency's tender for construction of the complex was won by "Skonto buve Ltd."
The Real Estate Agency signed a contract with "Skonto buve" one day before the 8th Saeima elections. The contract also stipulates that the agency will have to pay a LVL 700,000 penalty for a breach of the contract.
