"RBS Skals" plans to sell its business of designing internal wiring in buildings to Lithuanian company

The construction company "RBS Skals" has decided to sell controlling interest in its business of designing internal wiring and telecommunications systems in buildings to the Lithuanian telecommunications networks company "Comliet", newspaper "Dienas Bizness" reports today.

The construction company "RBS Skals" has decided to sell controlling interest in its business of designing internal wiring and telecommunications systems in buildings to the Lithuanian telecommunications networks company "Comliet", newspaper "Dienas Bizness" reports today.

"Comliet" is a subsidiary of the Lithuanian fixed telephony monopoly "Lietuvos telekomas" (LT). The new Nordic telecommunications concern that combines Swedish "Telia" and Finnish "Sonera" holds 60 percent interest in LT.

"RBS Skals" Chairman of the Board Maris Saukans explained that the company's department that up until now dealt in designing buildings' internal low-voltage networks - data, telecommunications, alarm networks - was transformed into "Datu tikli Ltd.", and its controlling stake was sold.

Saukans said that the deal would benefit both sides. It complies with both the construction company's intention to concentrate on its basic operations, and with "Comliet's" work in the telecommunications sector.

According to Saukans, the network design company is a "provider of intellectual services", it offers all services linked with buildings' internal networks - designing, finding the best solutions and supervising their implementation. The business was bringing in LVL 350,000 to LVL 400,000 a year for "RBS Skals".

Saukans also believes that "RBS Skals" will be able to continue using services of "Datu tikli" in implementation of its projects, and also receive dividends as a shareholder. Working under the auspices of the Lithuanian company will provide "Datu tikli" with greater opportunities.

"Comliet's" official statement said that it had signed a letter of intentions with "Datu tikli" on purchase of controlling interest, linked with the planned expansion of "Comliet's" operations in Latvia. "Comliet" launched its representative office in Latvia this past February.

"Comliet's" head Eimantas Satas said that "in time, our customers in Latvia may be offered mobile communications network construction and exploitation services, as well as maintenance of fixed lines."

The newspaper believes that Satas' statement implies that "Comliet" plans to participate in a third mobile phone operator's entry in Latvia, and to work on the fixed telephony market after it is deregulated in 2003. "Comliet" was the first NMT mobile phone operator in Lithuania in 1991, but later withdrew.
