"Rebir" requests LVL 221,000 subsidy

The Rezekne special economic zone's joint-stock "Rebir" has turned to Saeima with a request to allot a state subsidy of LVL 121,000 in the second half of the year and LVL 100,000 - next year.
The company in its letter to the Saeima's subcommittee for social development of regions points out that "Rebir" sold production for LVL 8.9 million last year and 90 percent of its production was exported.
To preserve its position on the market, more financing is to be invested in modern technology therefore "Rebir" actually invests its entire profit into the development of production annually, and it has contributed to the company's and regional development.
1,250 people are now employed at the company but along with subsidiaries - 1,800.
According to "Rebir", profit is insufficient for preserving its position on global markets and preserving or even increasing work places in such underdeveloped regions as Latgale. Therefore "Rebir" requests the state subsidy for introduction of powder metallurgy at the company.
The sub-commission has backed the request but Saeima Social and Labor Affairs Commission is to decide on the matter.
