The Riga City Council's Administrative Commission decided today to impose administrative penalties against the builders of the "Stockmann" department center in downtown Riga for violations during construction of the complex.
Janis Zommers, construction supervisor at "Stockmann Centrs Ltd." and the company's chief manager of construction, Aivars Leitans, will each be imposed a LVL 100 penalty.
The two can appeal against the Riga City Council commission's decision in ten days.
As reported, the State Cultural Monument Protection Inspection determined that "Stockmann" constructors had raised the height of the complex above the adjacent Riga Canal over three meters without coordinating the move. The inspection considered this to be a major deviation from the original project.
The construction work over the canal has been suspended, as the inspection had requested.
LVL 24 million are to be invested into the construction of the "Stockmann's" and the "Rautakirja" movie theater complex, including LVL 14 million that will be invested by "Stockmann" and LVL 10 million - by "Rautakirja".
Construction was launched last July and the complex is expected to be completed in the fall.
