The joint-stock central heating company "Rigas siltums" (RS) plans to take out a loan of LVL 15 million for modernization of the heating station "Imanta".
As LETA was informed by the RS press secretary Andris Sprogis, the project envisages that not only heating but also electrical power will be produced at "Imanta". The capacity of the new co-generation equipment is 32 MWh.
About LVL 18 million are to be invested in the project. It is expected that expenses for the project will be justified in 10 to 11 years.
RS heating station was built in 1974 and it has now become obsolete.
Sprogis stressed that RS has to operate in conditions of severe competition and consumers are rightful to choose other types of heating, for instance, gas heating. The price for gas is low therefore RS made a decision on construction of a co-generation station.
The RS press secretary pointed out that RS has profit figures that are too low compared to other power supply companies in Latvia. Key attention has been paid to retaining clients and the company without raising heating rates.
The Public Service Regulatory Commission has issued a license for RS to produce both heating and electrical power at the co-generation station.
