Second "Lido" complex to be built in Belarus

Latvia^apostrofs;s biggest public catering enterprise "Lido" will carry out already a second project in Belarus - a major public catering complex on a territory of 7,000 square meters in the vicinity of Minsk. The complex will be similar to the "Lido" complex on Krasta Street in Riga, the newspaper "Dienas Bizness" (DB) reports today.

Latvia's biggest public catering enterprise "Lido" will carry out already a second project in Belarus - a major public catering complex on a territory of 7,000 square meters in the vicinity of Minsk. The complex will be similar to the "Lido" complex on Krasta Street in Riga, the newspaper "Dienas Bizness" (DB) reports today.

The new complex has been ordered by the Belarussian President's Chancery. The strategy of "Lido" stipulates that the company will not invest its own money into foreign projects, the project in Belarus will be paid for by the Belarussian government.

"Lido" is currently working on the new complex's designs, Elmars Mazolis, marketing manager at "Lido's" export department, told DB. He did not say however when the work is to be completed.

"Lido" wants to attract Latvian construction companies to implement the project in Minsk. "Negotiations are under way with the Belarussian side about who will raise the complex. We want Latvia's construction companies to do the job," said Mazolis.

Viktors Purins, president of the Latvian Construction Association, confirmed to DB that Latvia's construction companies would gladly participate in the project. Purins plans on meeting officials from the Belarussian Embassy in Latvia to discuss this opportunity.

In the meantime, work on a public complex in downtown Minsk is under way, the complex will cover 1,000 square meters. Mazolis believes that construction of the complex will be completed around Christmas. The project has been ordered by "Belvneshtorginvest", and the complex will be run by the Belarussians.

As reported, Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov has on several occasions said that a complex similar to the "Lido" complex on Krasta Street needs to be launched in Moscow. This intention has not been implemented as yet, however.

"Lido" is also considering other offers received from Denmark, Germany, Russia and other countries, Mazolis told DB. It must be said, though, that "Lido" will be able to get down to other projects after it concludes the work in Belarus.

"Lido" is the biggest public catering complex in Latvia, it has 10 branches. "Lido" also deals with meat and fish processing. The company's turnover last year was LVL 13.39 million, 3 percent down from 2001.
