Some of the Swedish concern "Skanska AB's" major shareholders are discussing splitting the company in three, the "Dagens Industri" newspaper reports today.
According to the newspaper, "Industrivaerden", which owns 30.8 percent in "Skanska", and "Ikea Investment AB", with 10.7 percent, want to sell or list "Skanska's" U.S. operations and list its real estate operations separately. What would be left of the current "Skanska" would be its European operations.
Other forces within the company, however, strongly oppose the plans, saying there is a risk that "Skanska" would have to sell its assets too cheaply due to the poor market conditions currently.
At the same time, "Skanska" is looking for a new CEO to replace Claes Bjoerk, who will not be renewing his contract. The choice of CEO will determine if the company's future strategy includes a split-up, "Dagens Industri" reports.
