The State Cultural Monument Protection Inspection has determined that constructors of the department store "Stockmann" raised the height of the complex above the adjacent Riga Canal without coordinating the move, the inspection's head Juris Dambis told LETA.
An inspection carried out by the Cultural Monument Protection Inspection has discovered major alterations in the construction project, Dambis stressed.
The "Stockmann" department store project, approved last fall, stipulates that the building will be constructed over the canal, but the part of the complex over the canal would be diminished. The project was approved by the inspection because it had a "more benign attitude" toward the canal, Dambis said.
After said violations were ascertained by the Cultural Monument Protection Inspection, the constructors of the complex submitted corrections to the project but these were turned down by the inspection, Dambis said.
According to the project, LVL 24 million are to be invested into the construction of the Finnish "Stockmann" store and "Rautakirja" movie theater complex, including LVL 14 million that will be invested by "Stockmann" and LVL 10 million - by "Rautakirja".
The construction of "Stockmann" was launched last July and will be finished in the fall.
