All respective "Stockmann" executives are away on vacation at this time, which is why all matters would be addressed by August 12, the developers of the "Stockmann" project told the Cultural Monument Protection Inspection. They construction over the Riga Canal has been suspended as the commission demanded last week, they also confirmed.
The inspection's representatives visited the construction site yesterday and saw that construction work over the canal had been suspended as the inspection had mentioned, Dambis said.
The Cultural Monument Protection Inspection had determined that constructors had raised the height of the complex above the adjacent Riga Canal over three meters without coordinating the move. The "Stockmann" department store project, approved last fall, stipulates that the building will be constructed over the canal, but part of the complex over the canal would reduced, it would also include a rooftop garden and a pool.
According to the project, LVL 24 million are to be invested into construction of the "Stockmann" store and the "Rautakirja" movie theater complex, including LVL 14 million that will be invested by "Stockmann" and LVL 10 million - by "Rautakirja".
The construction of "Stockmann" was launched in July. It is expected to be completed in the fall.
