Two men die on construction site

Yesterday, July 20, two construction workers died in an accident on Andrejostas Street in Riga, Riga Police Headquarters' Press and Public Relations Department Chief Ieva Zvidre told LETA.
According to the police, the accident occurred at about 2 p.m. One of the men, Andrejs (born in 1982), died at the scene, the other man, Konstantins (1976), suffered multiple injuries and died in a hospital.
The accident is investigated by the police and officials of the prosecutor's office.
The accident occurred on the territory of Riga Port, while "Start Riga Ltd." was dismantling a large crane, Rita Elce, deputy head of State Labor Inspection' Riga regional department, told LETA. During the work, a crane's counterweight, about 15 tons, fell, killing one of the men. The other man fell from the crane, about 20 meters.
The State Labor Inspection has already been to the scene of the accident. A special commission will be set up for an investigation.
According to Elce, only after experts get the complete picture of the accident it could be determined who was guilty, and what punishment needs to be imposed.
According to the law, the Labor Inspection must investigate the accident in two weeks, however, the inspection's head could prolong the investigation if necessary.
