U.S. company "IMS Studio 6" project selected for construction of multi-functional arena in Riga
The action committee for organizing the ice hockey world championship in Riga in 2006 headed by Prime Minister Andris Berzins today selected the project handed in by the U.S. company "IMS Studio 6" for the construction of a multi-functional arena in Riga.

The other projects were submitted by "Multihalle Ltd." and the Finnish company "JHC Arena Holding Oy Ltd."(JHC) and "Metala buvju sistemas Ltd." represented by the Swiss and British businessmen group.
"IMS Studio 6" project which was today selected as the best project, offers investments up to USD 400 million or LVL 255.6 million.
According to calculations, the sports complex which comprises various arenas and halls, restaurants, a hotel and swimming pool could cost up to USD 400 million depending on its location and neighboring infrastructure.
"IMS Studio 6" plans to work according to the Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT) principle. According to this project, investments could be recovered in 15 years while in the next 15 years the complex could make profit.
"IMS Studio 6" is the U.S.-based construction-design company which has implemented important projects in the U.S., as well as in Europe, China, Taiwan and Australia.
According to the requirements of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the arena is to be open in the fall of 2005 - six months ahead of the championship.
The action committee for the 2006 ice hockey championship was set up on October 15 2001 by the government and it is led by the premier.
The action committee is made up of Minister of Finance Gundars Berzins, Minister of Education and Science Karlis Greiskalns, Kalvitis, Riga City Council, Latvian Ice Hockey Federation, joint-stock "Aldaris", "Invest Riga Ltd.", "Birojs 2000 Ltd." and the Sports Administration. The committee is authorized to sign all documentation concerning organizing the championship in 2006.
