The office building "Valdemara centrs" in central Riga has been bought by the Netherlands-registered "Marr Estates B.V.", however, addresses and names of the company's executives point to ties with Russia.

Two new "Valdemara centrs Ltd." council members are Marat and Rishat Safin, both also work for the joint-stock company "Saliena Real", which acquired scandalous reputation after it said it wanted to launch construction on land plot that belonged to Bulduri Horticulture Secondary School, and after University of Latvia (LU) said it suspected that government agencies' negative stance on the Science and Technology Park project resulted from LU's decision in March 2003 to turn down "Saliena Real's" offer to sell a land plot, required for implementation of the project, for an enormous sum of money.

According to the Registry of Enterprises' "Lursoft" database, "Saliena Real" belongs to Viesturs Koziols - 78 percent stake, Ainars Slesers (Latvia's First Party) and Tormod Stin-Johansen - 11 percent each.

"Valdemara centrs" Chairwoman of the Board is Mara Liepina, formerly the company's director. She told "Dienas Bizness" she could comment on the deal in greater detail later, after contacting the office building's new owners in Great Britain. "Valdemara centrs" council members Marat Safin and Andrew David Brown have reported Great Britain as the country of residence.

Council member Rishat Safin noted 6 Makarenko Street in Moscow as his address. Besides Liepina, the "Valdemara centrs" board also includes Rustem Gareyev, whose address is 79/3 Lenin Boulevard in Moscow. Gareyev is also a member of "Saliena Real" board.

Gareyev and Marat Safin have been working for "Saliena Real" since last October, Rishat Safin - since July 16 of this year.

The Swedish construction and real estate development center "Skanska" announced at the beginning of the year that it would fully withdraw from the Latvian market, and also sell all its real estate properties here.

USD 19.5 million were invested into "Valdemara centrs". Nevertheless, real estate experts estimate that its value currently is USD 8-15 million, reports "Dienas Bizness".

According to "Lursoft" database, "Valdemara centrs" posted LVL 1,033,321 in profit last year. The company's annual balance sheet said its long-term investments stood at LVL 11,429,270 at the end of 2002, debts were LVL 7,902,678, including debts to related enterprises at LVL 7,266,469.
