Ķeguma hydroelectric station will open after the reconstruction at August 22, Wednesday, Baiba Ābelniece, representative of the company's PR department, informed agency LETA.
Reconstruction of the Ķeguma hydroelectric station was started at May 11th, 1998 on the credit that was given by European Bank of Reconstruction and Development. Reconstruction of the Ķeguma hydroelectric station is one of the first biggest international projects in the history of the Latvenergo. Total expenses of the reconstruction of the Ķeguma hydroelectric station are more than 13 millions lats.
Company Hidroprojekts created the reconstruction project with eastern technological equipment. This project is realized partially; proposition of the Norwegian consulting company Norplan to switch to the western technological equipment was accepted. Contract about full reconstruction of the Ķeguma hydroelectric station was signed at 1996 with company Gec Alstom that was winner of the open contest.
Third and fourth hydroelectric sets were done first. Cost of the reconstruction of the third hydroelectric set was 3,5 millions lats and it was finished at December 20, 1999. In a less than a year - at October 5, 2000 - fourth hydroelectric set started to function, which reconstruction expenses were a little bit bigger than for third one - 3,6 millions lats; already at November 22 second hydroelectric set was finished and it's cost of reconstruction was 3,2 millions lats. Finally, at the August 13, 2001, state's commission decided, that fist hydroelectric set is ready to function and it's cost of reconstruction is 2,7 millions lats.
Specialists assure, that Ķeguma HES functional capability after the reconstruction is reestablished for 40 years. Examination of reconstructed sets proofs, that coefficient of efficiency have increased from 82% to 91,4%, that will allow hydroelectric station to generate extra 25 million kilowatt hours in a year.
Total amount of investments, that are invested in this project, is 57,136 millions USA dollars. Four of the Ķeguma HES hydroelectric sets and two of the Pļaviņu HES hydroelectric sets are reconstructed on this money, also complex of dams' safety measures and other things are done, that will allow hydroelectric stations on Daugava to work without problems for several decades.
